Bo Diddley's infectious beat had it's rhythmic ancestors in Sub-Saharan African music and later joined with Cuban rhythms. Then in America it became known as "shave and a hair cut, two bits" rhythm pattern. Many, many songs have used this pattern at different tempos through most of the rock era. Here is a collage of just a small sample of those tunes.
