My Favorite Bid: Splinter bids with Joan Butts

Описание к видео My Favorite Bid: Splinter bids with Joan Butts

Joan Butts talks about her favorite bid in bridge: the Splinter Bid

Imagine if partner opens 1H or 1S and we have really good support. In traditional bidding, we might simply jump to game, responding 4H or 4S. But what if we also have a singleton or a void, making our hand even better, and we'd like to ask if partner thinks we should go to slam. If only there was a way to tell partner all this...

Da-da-da-DAAAA!! Let's learn about the Splinter bid!

With a Splinter bid, if we have good support for partner's 1H or 1S opening bid AND we have a void or a singleton, we can respond at the 4-level in the suit of our singleton or void.

In this example hand, if we open 1S and partner responds 4C, partner is telling us partner has a good spade fit AND a singleton or void in clubs.

What do you think, should we go to slam? How does knowing about partner's club void or singleton help us decide how high to bid?
