"Metamoqester", known in Japan as "Oni: The Ninja Master", is a little-known arcade VS Fighting game released in 1995. Developed by Pandora Box and published by Banpresto, it stands out for its unusual focus on boss battles rather than traditional one-on-one matches. The game plays as a 2D “boss-rush” fighter, drawing comparisons to Konami’s Monster Maulers and Capcom’s Red Earth (Warzard). Unlike most fighters of its era, it offers a cooperative mode where two players can team up against massive, supernatural enemies, shifting the emphasis from competition to teamwork.

Players choose from three distinct protagonists: Yukihime, a nimble ninja girl; Tenmaru, a disciplined samurai; and Shuten, a demon-like warrior. Together, they face a series of monstrous foes in battles that blend fighting mechanics with spectacle. Despite its inventive design, Metamoqester never achieved mainstream recognition and is often described as a title that “fell through the cracks” compared to the more popular arcade hits of the mid-1990s.
