Multicultural families have set out to produce "spoken picture books", which are story books that are narrated in their respective native languages. We bring you to the recording in our next report.

An unfamiliar foreign language is spoken in this recording studio.

[Soundbite] "That swallow, I will catch it and pluck out all its feathers."

This woman from Mongolia recites a traditional children's story from her country for her two sons who are aged 3 and 6.

[Soundbite] Moved from Mongolia to Korea after marrying Korean husband : "I hope there are more opportunities to learn Mongolian culture."

This mother who came to Korea 20 years ago is recording a children's book together with her children.

[Soundbite] "The last arrow has been fired."

[Soundbite] "I'm a man who keeps my word!"

[Soundbite] "I'm so thirsty! I'm parched."

The two families narrated fairy tales from five countries including Mongolia, Vietnam and the Philippines. The books will be recorded in ten different languages to produce electronic story books that include images and sounds to be shared with multicultural families in Korea.

[Soundbite] Moved from Japan to Korea after marrying Korean husband : "There's a storyline as well as pictures. It's really helpful for the children to better understand different cultures."

The familiar folk tales recited by the mothers are serving as a helpful resource for children of these families in learning the language and understanding the culture of their parents.
