I got the chance to use the Canon 200-400mm f4 lens while on a trip in Southern Africa recently. It's not a new lens, but it's one that I've wanted to try for a while, and what a better place to shoot this beautiful piece of glass than on safaris throughout Africa?
The canon 200-400mm f/4l is ef usm extender 1.4x, is a one-of-a-kind lens. Not only is it 200-400mm, but it has a built-in 1.4x extender which brings the lens to a 280-560mm lens and one of the most versatile pieces of glass on the market.
This lens is made primarily for wildlife and sports photographers. And, in my case, it was used on safari, but I also even used it a couple times to shoot some landscapes in Namibia.
The short story of the Canon 200-400mm f4 review is that I loved the lens. I'd love to own it. But, at the same time, it's a huge lens that's only used for a very specific type of photography. It's not ultra-versatile for a travel photographer like myself. I think I'd honestly be more suited to the ultra-popular 100-400mm.
That said, the Canon 200-400mm is the premier long lens zoom out there right not, regardless of brand. And, if you're a wildlife photographer, this is the best lens you can buy.
