Choreographer Maria Bauman on her motto 'Sweat Your Truth' | Alvin Ailey New Directions

Adding new techniques to skills the dancers already have, Maria Bauman introduces text-based dancing, speaking and singing. The exercises encourage improvisation, challenging Ailey School students to draw on their inner landscapes.

Working with dancers at The Ailey School, choreographers Quilan “Cue” Arnold and Maria Bauman explore creative processes as part of the New Directions Choreography Lab, a residency founded by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Robert Battle, in this eight-part series by filmmaker Steven Tabakin.
