National Farmers Federation CEO Tony Maher says the Pacific Island Australia Labour Mobility Scheme is “unrealistic” from a farming point of view due to inconsistent harvests and it removes farmers “flexibility”.

“Some of these changes … 30 hours every week, that’s just unrealistic from a farming point of view,” Mr Maher told Sky News contributor Steve Price.

“It just doesn’t work like that, harvests come and go, and volatility in labour needs is just not that rigid, it really does remove the flexibility farmers need.”
