"The Sun Always Shines On T.V." is a fabulous song by "A-HA". The song is released from their debut studio album "Hunting High And Low" from 1985. It was written by band member and guitarist Pål Waaktaar.
The story behind is: the band sat on a rainy day in a hotel in London and watched English television. The guy on the T.V.-show said: "It may be a rainy day today, but - as always - the sun is shining on television." That was the impuls for the band. The song is about how television reflects our lives."A-HA" (Pål Waaktaar, Magne Furuholmen and their charismatic leadsinger Morten Harket) is a Norwegian synth-pop band formed in Oslo in 1982, known for global hits like "Take On Me", "Hunting High And Low", "Cry Wolf" and "The Sun Always Shines On T.V.". Their debut album "Hunting High And Low" topped charts in Norway, hit No. 2 in the UK and reached No. 15 on the U.S. Billboard 200. This album has sold over ten million copies to date, remaining the band's most successful album.
They followed up with successful albums like "Scoundrel Days" (1986), "Stay On These Roads" (1988) and "East Of The Sun, West Of The Moon" (1990), featuring iconic tracks like "The Living Daylights" and Crying In The Rain". After "Memorial Beach" (1993) underperformed, the band went on hiatus in 1994.
Reuniting in 2000, "A-HA" released "Minor Earth Major Sky", followed by "Analogue" (2005) and "Foot Of The Mountain" (2009), both certified Silver in the UK. Though they disbanded in 2010 after their Ending on a High Note tour, they returned in 2015 with "Cast In Steel" and released "True North" in 2022.
"A-HA" was the first Norwegian band to be nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best New Artist in 1986. The band holds a Guinness World Record for the largest-paying rock concert - 200,000 fans at Rio's Maracanã Stadium - and has sold over 100 million records worldwide, cementing their legacy as one of the highest-grossing bands in music history.
