මැණික් ග‍‍ඟෙන් දෝවනය කළ අතු පන්දලම සුරිඳුගෙ දෙවොලට..
ඓතිහාසික රුහුණු මහා කතරගම දේවාලයේ 6 වෙනි දින පෙරහර විදි සංචාරය කරන අද(15) දින දේවාලය ඉදිරිපිට ඇති කොළ අතු පන්දලම නව කොළ අතු දමා සකස් කිරීමේ පෞරාණික චාරිත්‍රය ඉටු කරනු ලැබුවා. එදා, දුටු ගැමුණු මහ රජ දවස පටන් අඛණ්ඩව සෑම ඇසළ පෙරහරකදීම මේ කටයුත්ත මහත් හරසරින් සිදු කරනු ලබයි. මහ වනයෙන් රැගෙන එන "දඹ" කොළ අතු හා දඬු යොදා මෙය අලුතෙන් සකස් කරනු ලබන්නේ පෙරහැරේ ගමන් ගන්නා අලි ඇතුනගේ මහෝපකාරයෙන් ය.
මේ අයුරින් සකස් කරනු ලබන අතු පන්දලම අතීතයේ දවසක සිදු වූ එක් සිදුවීමක් සිහිපත් කරයි. එනම්, කඳ කුමරුවන් හමු වූ දුටුගැමුණු මහ රජතුමා එළාර සමඟ ඇතිකර ගත් මහා සංග්‍රාමයෙන් ජය ලැබීමට බාරයක් විය. දුටුගැමුණු රජු එළාර රජු පරදවා ජයගත් විගස රන් උලු මාලිගාවක් සාදවා පුජා කිරීම එම බාරයයි. එම බාරය ඔප්පු කරන තෙක් සන්නාසි වෙසින් සිටි කඳ කුමරුවන්ට රජතුමා සෙබලුන් ලවා තාවකාලිකව කොළ අතු පන්දලමක් ඉදිකර දෙන ලදී. එදා සෑදු අතු පන්දලම අදත් සෑම වසරකදීම සිහි ගන්වමින් කතරගම මහ දෙවොල ඉදිරිපිට පිහිටි අතු පන්දලම සකස් කිරීම නැතිනම් අලුත් කිරීම චාරිත‍්‍රයක් ලෙස සිදුවේ. ඩිෂාන් වික්‍රමරත්න ගුණසේකර වත්මන් ගරු බස්නායක නිලමේ තුමා ප්‍රතම කොළ අතු වාසනා හස්තියාට ලබා දීමෙන් පසුව හස්තියා විසින් අතු පන්දලම වෙත ප්‍රතම කොළ අතු මිටිය හෙළනු ලැබීය.
මෙම අතු පන්දළම සකස් කිරිමෙන් පසුව දුටුගැමුණු මහ රජතුමාට එදා අයත් වූ "කඩොල් ඇතුගේ" දළ යුගළ දේවාලයේ මාලිගාවේ සිට දෙවියන්ගේ තිරය දෙපසට රැගෙන එනු ලැබීම ද සිරිත් පරිදි සිදු කරනු ලැබීය.

The "Athu Pandalama" purified by the water from Menik river to the dewalaya of God Kataragama.
The ritual of renewal of the "Athu Pandalama" in front of the dewalaya, by using new branches with leaves took place today(15), on the sixth day of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Perahera Festival 2021. This is a ritual which takes place at the Esala Perahera Festival every year from the days of King Dutugemunu. This ritual is done with the help of the elephants who take part in the procession. "Dhamba" branches big and small along with the leaves which is brought from the jungle is used to cover the roof.
This ritual is done in memory of an incident which took place in ancient times. In remembrance of a vow made by King Dutugemunu to God Kataragama on his way to the great war against King Elara, which is to build a dewalaya with a golden roof for God Kataragama as soon as his victory over King Elara. Till then King Dutugemunu got his army to build a "Athu Pandalama" for God Katharagama who was a "Sanyasi". So this ritual of "Athu Pandalama" is done every year during the Esala Perahera Festival. Hon. Basnayake Nilame, Dishan Wickramaratne Gunasekera handed over the first bunch of branches to "Wasana' - the elephant and in turn Wasana kept it on the roof.
Another ritual follows the ritual of "Athu Pandalama" which is to bring the tusks of "Kadol" the elephant of King Dutugemunu to either side of the front curtain of the dewalaya from the dewalaya palace.
