Paddy's DIY - How to open a broken uPVC window lock
Another great instructional video brought to you by Paddy's DIY

In this video i'm going to show you my method for opening a broken window espag locks on a upvc window. This is a great method and will work on virtually all types of window espag locks that have roller locking points. This will also work on other window types that use espag locks (eg. aluminum windows, timber /wooden windows or aluclad windows). I've also used this method on other types of window locks eg. hook locks.

Remove the window handle first. Sometimes the window handle can be broken, mimicking the appearance of a broken window lock.

You will need a vice grips, a set of Allen keys and a small flat screwdriver. You might also need a hammer if your window lock is rusted or seized up. You might also need a wide paint scraper if your windows have co-extruded window seals (co-extruded window seals are made apart of the window frame and cannot be removed) or if your window is locked very tight. Do not use a screwdriver to pry between the sash and window frame, as it will damage the window frame. Using a wide paint scraper will spread the load on the window frame, minimising the chance of damage to the window frame.

When you have your window lock open, it is a straight forward job to replace the broken window espag lock. Click on the link below for my instructional video on how to replace the window espag lock
