Описание к видео Mahler - The Later Years - Music and the Passion | Biographical Documentary | Part 2

Gustav Mahler is one of the most popular composers in the classical world, his symphonies and other works regularly performed across the globe.

But in his lifetime he was better known as a conductor and his own compositions often fell onto unappreciative ears.

In his forties he married the flamboyant and 19 years younger Alma Schindler and much of what we think we know about Mahler comes from her notoriously unreliable memoirs.

In the first part of this documentary we learned about his early years, in this second part we focus on his later years – his years in Vienna, his tempestuous marriage to Alma Schindler and his years in New York before the hammer blows of fate finally caught up with him all too soon.
