OC aka Pepper Spray is often used for de-escalation purposes. During the training, each academy recruit is first sprayed and then run through a series of scenarios where they have to react and even defend their weapon.

For any seasoned officer, this day is hard to forget, which is a good thing! Being prepared to act even under difficult circumstances is something our officers are well-equipped to do because of the level of training our Law Enforcement Training Academy provides.
