Описание к видео WWII: Japanese Internment

In the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor many Americans, driven by fear and paranoia, had deep hatred and distrust for Japanese Americans, and feared the possibility of espionage or sabotage. The solution came as Pres. Roosevelt signed executive order 9066. FDR's newest executive order forced the relocation of all people of Japanese descent to report for relocation in internment camps, far away from the military bases and wartime manufacturing hubs of the west coast. The Japanese were forced to sell their homes, businesses, farms, cars, and other assets for pennies on the dollar. They were only allowed bring with them what they could carry. The Supreme Court even tragically upheld these internment camps as constitutional in the infamous case Korematsu v. United States. These internment camps were often located in the harsh and isolated areas of the southwest, and they were guarded and surrounded by razor wire. The camps were crowded, and internees were given jobs to occupy their time and to help the camps run more efficiently. The camps were emptied at the end of WWII and prisoners were given $25 dollars and a train ticket back to their city of origin. Few however, had anything to return to. And after World War II, many Japanese families who had spent decades working to gain success and prosperity, were forced to start all over again.
