Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere series show us mutable landscapes creating lines of time with layers more or less visible... like memories that come and go gently in our mind and/or lifetime. It is known this series is a result of work in Malibu beach, a place that is part of your child memories. What brings you the autobiographical work?
As an artist, I've engaged in an ongoing conversation about the space between identifiable points. The so-called journey from a "here" to a "there" is where stories emerge. The construction of these narratives is the basis of my work so it was essential for me to go back to my own beginnings in terms of memory. Malibu is the starting point for my personal narrative.
There is a storytelling in Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere as we always recall memories in order to (re)tell a story. The organization/structure of this exhibition has a story to be followed?
Because stories change over time, the process of making this work spanned over four years. Photographing from the same points on the beach as the tides changed throughout the year, I used various cameras, both film and digital, to record the shifting narrative.
What is for you to have such work presented in Cascais, Portugal, where you probably also have memories to recollect?
I have only been to Cascais once, so it is still new to me. I am thrilled to be showing this work at CCC and look forward to joining the list of extraordinary artists who have exhibited there.
