✅ GOLD DRIFTS LOWER, INVESTORS EYE POWELL’S SPEECH
Gold prices slipped on Tuesday as the U.S. dollar held firm, while investors awaited comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell as well as the country’s jobs data for further clues about the interest rate outlook. Spot gold was down 0.2% at $2,326.82 per ounce, as of 0443 GMT. U.S. gold futures fell 0.1% to $2,335.70. The dollar was supported by rising U.S. yields, making bullion less attractive.

✅ EUROPEAN STOCKS DROP AHEAD OF EURO-AREA CPI DATA
European stocks declined ahead of data on euro-region inflation, after policy makers signaled they need more evidence that price pressures are easing before considering another interest rate cut. The Stoxx Europe 600 benchmark dropped about 0.5%, led by the construction and materials sector and car makers. France’s CAC 40 underperformed, paring some of Monday’s gains, as the country prepares for a second election round. US equity futures slipped.

✅ YEN HITS 38-YEAR LOW, NIKKEI SURGES AS TRUMP RISK BUOYS US YIELDS
The U.S. dollar hit a near 38-year high to the yen on Tuesday following a surge in Treasury yields as investors contemplated prospects of a second Donald Trump presidency. Japan's weak currency helped lift the Nikkei above the psychological 40,000 mark for the first time in three months, making the index an outlier as many other regional stock markets struggled. The dollar rose as high as 161.745 yen on Tuesday, a level not seen since December 1986.
