Описание к видео Super Moon 2025 WATCH LIVE: Harvest Moon Seen Over Taipei, Taiwan | Sharad Purnima | N18G

The first supermoon of 2025 will be visible to skywatchers worldwide on the night of October 6 as the Harvest Moon reaches its closest and fullest point, appearing up to 30% brighter and 14% bigger than a normal full moon. This particular lunar spectacle expands as the Harvest Moon — the full moon that falls closest to the autumnal equinox (this year on September 22) — a traditional marker in various cultures for the harvesting season. According to NASA, the supermoon will dominate the sky on October 6, the night the Draconid meteor shower is expected to start. However, the Harvest Moon in October might be too bright for people to appreciate the meteor shower completely.

Timing and Viewing Tips

The Harvest Supermoon will rise in the eastern sky on Monday, October 6, at 6:55 pm ET and set at 8:05 am ET the following day. Additionally, the moon will be full when it rises at 7:28 pm ET on Tuesday.

The full moon is predicted to achieve its maximum brightness around 11:48 pm ET on October 6 (early October 7 in UTC). Beginning on the evening of October 5 and continuing through October 7, the moon will be nearly full in many locations.Experts advise viewing the Moon shortly after moonrise or close to moonset, when it is low on the horizon and its shape looks exaggerated due to an atmospheric phenomenon called the ‘moon illusion,’ for the most dramatic views.

Look for a spot with an open view; fields, parks, and waterfronts are excellent spots to observe the scenery.

It is advised to use a tripod for photography. Consider adding foreground objects (trees, buildings) to provide a sense of scale, and use slower exposures to prevent overexposure of the bright lunar disc.

Why It Happens

A ‘supermoon’ happens when the moon is both full and close to perigee, the point in its elliptical orbit that comes closest to Earth. Although the change is barely noticeable for many casual observers, the moon may appear substantially bigger and brighter than usual due to its proximity.

The moon will come close to Earth during the most recent viewing, approximately 224,600 miles (361,459 km) away. Three supermoons in 2025 will follow after this one, with the following two being on November 5 (Beaver Supermoon) and December 4 (Cold Moon Supermoon).

Two lunar eclipses will occur in 2026: A total eclipse in March that will be visible from most of North America, Asia, and Australia, and a partial eclipse in August that will be visible from the Americas, Africa, and Europe.
