A documentary film describing twelve oak species of the northeastern U.S., which comprise the native oak species of New England. Beyond species identification, natural and cultural history is related, including charcoal kilns of yesteryear.
Timelapse footage shows seldom-witnessed events in the life of an oak tree, including acorns sprouting/rooting, gypsy moths laying eggs, and acorn weevil larvae in (and exiting) acorns.
Galls and the insects that form them are shown.
UMass-Amherst biologist Jeff Boettner describes the surprising relationship among oaks, mice, and gypsy (aka "spongy") moths.

Note to viewers: there are two Youtube settings that may be turned on by default, and that many people find annoying.

1. If you find that certain sounds are too loud (eg, background soft breezes), it may be because the "Stable Volume" setting is turned on. You can also select a playback video resolution in the Settings menu, which will affect how the video looks on your device. The "Quality" setting is where you can select the optimal resolution for your device (ie, a computer screen, phone, tablet, etc). Our videos are usually created in 4K (2160p) resolution, and that will give you the best video quality if your device is capable of playing 4K. Smaller screen devices (such as phones or tablets), or older computers, may not be able to play 4K, so in that case select a lower setting. Use the highest setting that your device can play properly.

To move a closed caption, place your cursor on it and drag it.
