An Artful Life: A Curious Conversation with Heidi Hefferlin About the Ways Humans Make and Use Art (and Architecture).

Heidi Hefferlin’s inclination to structure and function was visible at an early age, when, as a teenager, she disassembled two broken 1965 Ford Mustangs to build one functional one.

Her education and early career led her out West, to Colorado, and then to Los Angeles, where she worked at Skidmore Owings and Merill and with Richard Meier at the Getty Museum.

After turmoil in Los Angeles, she relocated her family to Tennessee, where, with Craig Kronenberg, she founded HK Architects, a 30-person firm that has quietly renovated the Southside of Chattanooga.

Personal, luminous homes and inspiring public spaces are their trademark. She is also our co-host Melissa’s sister!
