We have an oral health epidemic in this country, and we’re not doing anything about it. HALF of US adults have some form of gum disease, which we KNOW is associated with increased risk of heart disease, cancer, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and likely Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline.

For decades we’ve known that some bacteria release acids and cause cavities, while others cause inflammation and gum disease. These SAME bacteria are known to make colorectal cancer more aggressive, and have been found on the heart tissue of patients with heart disease, and the placenta of women with adverse pregnancy outcomes. We also now know that we have certain bacteria we NEED to be healthy, they reduce our blood pressure and help improve cognitive function. Yet we still commonly use treatments that annihilate them, like mouthwash.

We’re sick, and we’re not getting better because we’re not treating the root cause of oral disease. The bacteria in our mouths, our oral microbiome.
