Above is an example of the 'Rolling Band' artifact in Kepler/K2 data.

Shown is one of the Campaign 8 "superstamps", which are large sections of pixels downloaded showing extended objects. In this case we are seeing the IC1613 galaxy. Around the superstamp you can see smaller Target Pixel Files (TPFs) covering single objects of interest.

You can see a dark band move from the top of the superstamp to the bottom during the movie. This dark band and surrounding artifacts are due to Rolling Band. You can read more about the causes of Rolling Band in the Kepler Instrument Handbook.

Note that in this video the color scaling has been stretched to highlight the Rolling Band, but it is actually a very small background effect. The magnitude of Rolling Band is approximately 30 counts per pixel. (The color scale covers 20 to 80 counts.)
