I never planned to do a 'how to' type video, but this one was worth doing as this particular plant has proved challenging for some people

Schefflera taiwaniana is a great plant for a jungle style garden, but over the last few years it has been difficult to get good sized pants and the only plants that have been available are very small, micro propagated plugs which can prove a bit tricky. I bought a few of these plants and apart from a couple of plants I forgot about, they all did well. I’m no expert, lots of people grow this plant, but my small plants did well, so just wanted to share my experience

I got most of what I wanted to say in video, but here's a couple of other points.......
Overwintering - keep in a sheltered spot outside as much as possible, if it's going to freeze for a long period, then bring indoors, somewhere cool, then when temps rise, outside again. Same as you would treat any other small plant, none of them like to be frozen, but being inside for long periods is not ideal either
Planting out - I would plant out in spring when plant has around 18" (450mm) of solid stem, they grow quick, so should gain at least 12" (300mm) before temps start to drop
New leaves - early or late flushes of leaves can get fried by frost, there will be plenty more, but if a frost is forecast in spring, it's worth throwing a fleece over the plant to protect the delicate new leaves

Good size plants are now becoming readily available
Places to try include Desert To Jungle and Pan Global plants. I bought a few from Nobridge nursery near Telford a few weeks back.
But they do seem to be popping up in various nurseries around the country going by the photos and comments I've seen on various gardening groups
Crug farm do list plants from several collections but they have not had any showing available for a while now. But check their website and read about their plant hunting trips, really good reading!
