The flood situation in Varanasi has worsened as the Ganga river continues to rise steadily, submerging all 84 ghats and pushing water levels close to the danger mark. Backflow from the Varuna river has flooded 12 urban wards, leaving streets and homes waterlogged and forcing evacuations. Over 1,200 people are now in 16 operational relief camps. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have been briefed and directed that all possible help be extended to flood-affected families. Rescue and relief efforts by the administration, police, NDRF and SDRF are in full swing, with residents urged to remain vigilant.
