The people of North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee are still suffering a year after Hurricane Helene.

Helene appeared to be a normal hurricane that would end near the coast. The people in the mountains were unprepared and not evacuated from their homes. Helene came inland to the Appalachian Mountains and ravaged everything in its path, causing extreme destruction and surging floods. Wind speeds reached 106+ mph in Mt. Mitchell. The North Fork dam, along with other infrastructure, was damaged, causing water levels to rise over 30ft in just a day in Swannanoa.

Due to the mountains, thousands of people were stranded without a way out because the bridges and roads were washed away, and covered in trees. These people were desperate just to find food and water to help them survive, and to get to safety. Around 1/3 of the population of Swannanoa fled to other states, while the others were stuck finding shelter.

I have been blessed and humbled to be able to go to North Carolina multiple times to help serve those affected. The people are resilient and do not give up. Through the devastation, God is showing up and restoring and healing what is broken. I heard a person who was directly affected say that, “there is no denying God’s existence after seeing the army that He sent to help during recovery.” The people who lost everything are extremely grateful to still have their lives. Please Pray for and reach out to those affected! They are still healing, and many of them are separated from their families to rebuild.
