The Pingxi Line is single-track railway and branch line of the Taiwan Railways, it runs through Ruifang Districts and Pingxi Districts in New Taipei City.
This branch railway is the most popular and tourist branch railway in Taiwan. Many tourists will cast sky lanterns on the railway at Shifen Station (十分站) and Jingtong Station (菁桐站).
The Pingxi Line railway crosses the narrow streets near Shifen Station, tourists on the street will give way to the train when the train comes.
As the train slowly pulls into Shifen Station, a signature scene unfolds before your eyes — the train passes right through the center of the old street (十分老街), where countless sky lanterns hang overhead. Tourists take photos on both sides of the tracks, retreating to the red-brick walkway only when the warning bell sounds. The "Shifen Happiness" mailbox, traditional sky lantern workshops, and the wooden food carts selling miner’s lunchboxes by the rails together create a uniquely charming cultural railway landscape.

Just a 15-minute walk away, the majestic Shifen Waterfall (十分瀑布) spans 40 meters in width, cascading down into a deep pool with a thunderous roar. Sunlight often refracts through the mist, creating vivid rainbows. From the viewing platform, visitors can feel the refreshing spray up close, while the nearby railway bridge offers a perfect vantage point to capture the stunning scene of a train and the waterfall in a single frame.
Hidden deep in the mountains, Wanggu Station (望古站) is the quietest stop along the Pingxi Line, where the platform is accompanied only by mountain mist and the sounds of nature. A peaceful 20-minute walk down a serene trail leads to the tiered Wanggu Waterfall (望古瀑布), where emerald green pools and fern-covered rock walls create a secluded, fairy-tale-like retreat.

45DR1000 series is diesel-driven train, each car has power and it's can operate independently. This is different from another common diesel multiple unit train (DMU train), because not all cars of DMU train are powered, they cannot operate independently.
DR1000 was manufactured by Nippon Sharyo (日本車両) in 1998, and developed to meet the needs of Taiwan Railways in branch lines (non-railway electrification).
