As the world’s population continues to grow, so does the amount of garbage that we produce. On-the-go lifestyles require easily disposable products, such as soda cans or bottles of water, but the accumulation of these products has led to increasing amounts of plastic pollution around the world.
We are generating more trash than ever. Plastics, paper, glass and metal waste and their byproducts are littering our cities, oceans, and waterways, inundating our landfills, and contributing to health and environmental problems in humans and animals.

Packaging – much of it single-use food wrapping – has created a rubbish problem that now pollutes every corner of the world. Worldwide, we produce almost 20,000 plastic bottles every second.

Plastics make up more than 12 percent of our solid waste. We are buying more and more plastic, most of which gets thrown away shortly after use. Because plastic is meant to last, it is nearly impossible to break down by the natural decomposition process.

There is plastic everywhere: in our supermarkets, on our dining tables and kitchens, in our cars and on our streets, in our buildings and our offices. It is nearly impossible to imagine a world without plastics.

Every year, we send an estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic out to sea.
