The events that occurred in the forty days following Jesus' resurrection are detailed in the New Testament's Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These forty days was a critical period, marked by significant encounters and events that strengthened the faith of Jesus' disciples and followers.
After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples, proving that he had indeed risen from the dead. He showed them his wounds and ate with them, dispelling any doubts they may have had about his identity. Jesus' first appearance was to Mary Magdalene, who went to the tomb early in the morning, found it empty, and was later startled to see Jesus standing before her.
After that, Jesus appeared to his disciples and gave them a final commission to go out and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. He also promised to send them the Holy Spirit, which would empower them to do the work he had given them.
Jesus continued to make appearances to his disciples and other followers, including a time when he walked with two of his disciples on the road to Emmaus. They didn't recognize him at first, but he explained the Scriptures to them, and when they arrived at their destination, he broke bread with them, revealing his identity.
On another occasion, Jesus appeared to his disciples while they were fishing, and he prepared breakfast for them. He also restored Peter, who had denied him three times before his crucifixion, by asking him three times if he loved him and giving him the charge to feed his sheep.
In his final moments with his disciples, Jesus ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives. Before doing so, he told them to wait in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit, which would empower them to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
In summary, the forty days following Jesus' resurrection were a time of significant events that strengthened the faith of his followers and prepared them for the work ahead. These events demonstrated that Jesus had indeed risen from the dead, given his final commission to his disciples, promised the Holy Spirit, restored Peter, and ascended into heaven, leaving his followers with a clear charge and the power to fulfill it.
