Today Saturday July 20 2024 Bangladesh curfews has been released for two hours from 12 to 2 pm. This is Sipahibagh kitchen market buying spree going on as curfews is withdrawn.
You know student protest going on since more than last two weeks against quota system/discrimination in civil service job in Bangladesh. Last Tuesday July 16 at least six students/youths died by police firing in different campus including Abu Sayed a student of Begum Rokeya University of Rangpur. This incidents sparked more protests countrywide later day Wednesday 17 July. General students of Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Jahangirnagar University and some others took total control of their campuses and dormitories. Bangladesh Chatra League BCL student wing of ruling party Awami Luague run away from those campuses. Later on the same day government declared nationwide shutdown of educational institutions. All students are ordered to leave dormitories within six hours. Protesting students declared to stay in campuses defying gov order. Government then used force to vacant the campuses. Protesting students called nationwide complete shutdown on Thursday against this repression. Millions of people including students/young community came out in the street countrywide protesting government brutality against students. Police, paramilitary force BGB, elite force RAB, other law enforcement agencies started deadly crackdown nationwide to suppressed the protest. Many people died this day alleged by police and BGB firing . No one knows how many people died Thurs day because internet has been closed Thursday evening. Friday More people came out in street and Quota reform movement turned into a anti-government Movement. Many more people died Friday and no one knows the real figure. People in the roads are started telling several hundreds people died nationwide mainly by BGB firing indiscriminately. Thursday and Friday total country sunk into anarchy/chaos. Many government and Police installations including Bangladesh Television head quarter burned down on Thursday and Friday. To control situation government imposed nationwide curfew from Friday midnight and Army has been deployed from Saturday.
