Ramayana - Why did Sati test Lord Rama? By Swami Mukundananda

Once Shiv ji decided to hear Ram Katha from Rishi Agastya so Shiv ji, along with his consort "Sati", went to Rishi Agastya's ashram. Rishi Agastya welcomed them by doing their "Pooja" and later related Shri Ram Katha to Lord Shiv and Sati.

Shiv ji was drinking the nectar of the katha through his ears but Sati was inattentive. After hearing the katha when Shiv and Sati were returning from ashram in Dandakaranya forest they saw Ram and Lakshman who were searching for Sita kidnapped by Ravan. Lord Shiv offered pranam to Lord Ram from far but seeing Ram in a grieving state Sati started doubting that if Ram is God. What she does next offends Shivji, and she later paid the price of not trusting her husband's (Lord Shiv ) words about Lord Ram.
