If you're having a blooming cactus may it be a Gymnocalycium, Astrophytum and etc. without a pair, you could store their pollens with this method and save it for future use.

I learned this storage method a few months back and from what I've observed, the pollen when frozen can be viable upto a month. The pollens would start to loose their viability at 2 months.

Steps on Pollen Storage
1. Harvest the pollens by placing them on a small vial. For Astrophytums, you can harvest them the same day the flower blooms. For Gymnocalycium, you can harvest the pollens upto the 2nd day from blooming.
2. Store them by batches. I use micro plastic test tubes that I bought from shoppee with a desiccant placed inside.
3. Air dry for a day. Labelling is also important so you can remember the plant, the date of harvest and the estimated viability of the pollen (1month)
4. Store in the freezer in the inner most area where there is less temperature variability.

If you intend to use the pollen, you should NOT take the entire container out of the freezer. Remove it by batches and before opening it, you should defrost till room temperature. OPENING IT WHILE IT'S STILL COLD will attract moisture to the pollens degrading them in the process. Once at room temperature, you can use it for pollination.
