Namaste from Himalayan Capital!

Today we are featuring 200 years old Jacquard Loom technology invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard, which uses the punch card technique to design the fabric, it was later adopted by a computer system. You can call Jacquard as the forefather of a modern-day computer.

First, the Fabric design is translated to graph paper, then the design is transferred to the punch card by a skilled craftsman.

Each punch card represents one row of pattern, and a series of punch cards are assembled to complete the design.

Then this chain of a punch card is attached to the jacquard machine.

The holes in card select threads for pattern and allows the hooks to pass. Lastly, the fabric is created by passing threads over and under using the shuttle.

These are some of the patterns created here at Pashmina Studio.

Since we are working with probably the last generation of  Jacquard craftsmen in Nepal. Here at pashminastudio we are keeping the authenticity of Jacquard tradition alive.
