Are Viral Food Places in Kathmandu Really Worth the Hype? | Honest Food Review Nepal
With Instagram reels and TikTok videos constantly showing off new and exciting food spots in Kathmandu, it's easy to get swept up in the trend. But the real question is — are these viral food places truly worth your time, money, and appetite, or are they just hyped up for the camera? In this video, we set out on a food hunt to find the truth behind some of the most talked-about and widely shared food joints in the city. From street food legends to trendy cafes, we visited five locations that have gained massive attention across social media platforms in Nepal.
We started our journey at a place called Bhauju Ko Bhatti in Patan, popularly known online as Bhauju Ko Anda Chiura Pasal. Famous for its budget-friendly yet flavorful meals, we tried their signature anda chiura for just Rs. 80 and also sampled their spicy fried buff chilly. Then, we headed to the ever-viral Aunty Chicken Pakauda, a street stall serving crispy chicken pakaudas at just Rs. 110 for 10 pieces — a favorite among TikTok creators.
Our next stop was Mr. Waffles, a dessert brand run by three young Nepali entrepreneurs known online as Nepali Kera. We got a taste of their most popular waffles including royal pistachio, oreo bites, and cinnamon biscoff, along with their rich and decadent High on Chocolate — a go-to dessert place for the sweet tooth crowd on Instagram.
We also visited Thamel Doner Kebab, a place hugely popular among tourists but still underrated among the local Nepali audience. We tried their chicken shawarma wrap and their famous doner plate — which comes with three kinds of pita, fresh hummus, savory sauces, and tender doner chicken — all wrapped in rich Middle Eastern flavor.
To wrap up our food journey, we stopped by Maya Chulo at Gairidhara, a newly opened dal bhat restaurant that’s been gaining attention for its authentic and satisfying Nepali khana sets. We tried their veg khana set, chicken thali, and mutton khana set — all packed with flavor, variety, and great value for money.
Throughout this video, we didn’t just chase trends — we evaluated each place based on taste, price, portion, vibe, and overall experience. Some places absolutely lived up to the hype, while a few had room for improvement. But what we found across the board was that these viral places, in one way or another, were actually worth checking out. If you're a food lover, a content creator, or just someone looking to explore new places to eat in Kathmandu, this honest review will help you decide where to go next.
