The Richmond River Koala Parks: Protecting Our Future

In this video, we explore the urgent need to protect over 56,000 hectares of native forests in northern New South Wales through the proposed Richmond River Koala Parks initiative. These forests are a critical habitat for koalas and over 130 other threatened species, including the critically endangered Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater.

Tragically, over 86% of these forests were devastated by the 2019–2020 wildfires, wiping out more than half the koalas in the region. Now, as these ecosystems begin to recover, they face a new threat: industrial logging.

But there is hope. By establishing the Richmond River Koala Parks, we can create a continuous, protected sanctuary that will not only safeguard koalas but also protect rivers, wetlands, and the wildlife that depend on them. These forests also play a vital role in fighting climate change, with the potential to sequester over 350,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

The Endangered Gliders Project is a volunteer citizen science project in NSW Australia, surveying for endangered animals such as Southern Greater Gliders and Yellow Bellied Gliders in Native forests scheduled to be logged by Forestry NSW.
We get 50m protection buffers put in place for every Den we confirm by observing the animal in the hollow bearing tree, recording their location and reporting them to Forestry and the Environment Protection Agency.
