Mirza Ghalib is the leading poet of Urdu ghazals. Fraught with personal tragedy through out his adult life, his poetry has a unique manner of dealing with sadness and difficulty. In this rendition, the soul-stirring ghazal comes to life, capturing the essence of love, longing, and spiritual devotion in a qawwali musical format.

Ghalib begins by juxtaposing two seemingly contradictory experiences: weeping and unbridled love. On one hand, he references the act of weeping, which is often associated with sadness and suffering. On the other hand, he alludes to love, which is a source of joy and ecstasy. This contrast underscores the dual nature of love, highlighting that it can bring both tears of sorrow and tears of bliss.

The second line, "Dhoye gaye hum aisey ki bas paak ho gaye," carries a profound message. It suggests that the intensity of love can purify the human heart and soul to such an extent that it leads to a state of spiritual sanctity. The word "paak" signifies purity and holiness. Rone se aur ishq mein bebaq ho gaye,
Dhoye gaye hum aisey ki bas paak ho gaye.

karne gaye the usse tagaaful ka hum gila
ki ek hi nigaah ki bas khaak ho gaye

is rang se uthaai kal usne asad ki laash
dushman bhi jisko dekh ke gamnaak ho gaye

रोने से और इश्क़ में बेबाक हो गए
धोए गए हम इतने कि बस पाक हो गए

सर्फ़-ए-बहा-ए-मय हुए आलात-ए-मय-कशी
थे ये ही दो हिसाब सो यूँ पाक हो गए

रुस्वा-ए-दहर गो हुए आवारगी से तुम
बारे तबीअतों के तो चालाक हो गए

कहता है कौन नाला-ए-बुलबुल को बे-असर
पर्दे में गुल के लाख जिगर चाक हो गए

पूछे है क्या वजूद ओ अदम अहल-ए-शौक़ का
आप अपनी आग के ख़स-ओ-ख़ाशाक हो गए

करने गए थे उस से तग़ाफ़ुल का हम गिला
की एक ही निगाह कि बस ख़ाक हो गए

इस रंग से उठाई कल उस ने 'असद' की ना'श
दुश्मन भी जिस को देख के ग़मनाक हो गए
