Washington Dulles People Mover / Mobile Lounge

Opened in 1962, Washington Dulles Airport originally used 'people movers' to ferry travelers from their terminals directly to their planes. The jet bridge and the construction of a train system to connect most of the terminals at IAD eventually made these large vehicles mostly obsolete, but they are still used to connect concourse D to the rest of the airport.

I had never been through this airport before and had no idea about this system, so when I stumbled across it I had to go for a ride - and film it to take you with me.

In the video I say that the people mover moves up and down to reach different terminal levels, and it does, but originally of course this was done to bring the mover up to the level of an airplane.

What a cool piece of history!
