$200,000 BPAA U.S. OPEN

U.S. Open To Holman For 2nd Time

Marshall Holman returned to Galaxy Lanes, where he ended a long slump two years ago, and this time walked away with the $200,000 BPAA U.S. Open crown.

In defeating Wayne Webb, Indianapolis, 233-205, Holman also became the first player in PBA history to win this prestigious first jewel of professional bowling's "Triple Crown" twice. He also won the Open in 1981 at Houston.

In the first game, Alan Granat went down to defeat at the hands of Steve Wunderlich, 202-193, when Granat left the 4-5 in the final frame. Wunderlich then lost to Webb, 226-197, and Webb tuned up for the championship match by eliminating Dennis Jacques, 223-192.

In the title game, Holman got off to a bad start when he left the 4-7-9-10 split. He then doubled and finally caught Webb midway in the match with strikes in the fifth through eighth frames, and then doubled in the 10th to win it going away.
