The British royal family recently attended a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey. At first glance, it might seem that the Princess of Wales deviated from the rules by not honoring the monarch and his wife.

King Charles III of the United Kingdom led the annual ceremony at Westminster Abbey, where he would be formally crowned in May. Her look was complemented by luxurious jewelry - sapphire earrings, once owned by Princess Diana, and a brooch with diamonds from Elizabeth II's collection.

However, despite Catherine's perfect demeanor, some royal observers were left confused by what they thought was tradition that the Princess did not curtsy to her father-in-law.

Strict royal protocol dictates that the Princess of Wales, along with other members of the monarchy, must curtsy to King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, as they are the most senior members of the family. In turn, the male members of the royal family respectfully bow their heads to the monarch and his consort.

However, I want to point out that Catherine has always followed the rules, she has always greeted the late Elizabeth II with a respectful curtsy and crouched down to meet her husband's father after he ascended the throne.

In fact, it's pretty easy to explain. The Princess of Wales only has to curtsy the first time each day she sees the King and his wife.
