🎓 PosePIE transforms standard webcams into gesture control interfaces using AI pose estimation, enabling keyboard-free computer interaction without specialized hardware.
Speakers:
Daniel Stolpmann
Description:
In this presentation, Daniel Stolpmann introduces PosePIE, an open-source tool that enables gesture-based control of computers using standard webcams. The system leverages the YOLO computer vision framework to perform real-time human pose estimation, detecting 17 key body points defined by the COCO dataset. PosePIE implements six core gestures: arm raising, leaning, steering, jumping, swiping, and pointing, with capabilities for custom gesture development. The system addresses various technical challenges through coordinate normalization, time-based calculations, and adaptive filtering to ensure robust performance across different camera setups and user positions. The architecture integrates with multiple input emulation methods, including keyboard, mouse, and gamepad controls, supporting both Windows and Linux platforms. A Python-based scripting interface enables customizable mapping between detected gestures and system inputs. The implementation utilizes TensorRT optimization for GPU acceleration, ensuring real-time performance. Future development plans include expansion into 3D pose detection through multi-camera setups and AI-based depth estimation, with particular applications in smart home control systems. The project demonstrates practical applications of computer vision technology in human-computer interaction, making gesture control accessible without specialized hardware.
