In 1478, Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile established one of the most feared institutions in history: the Spanish Inquisition.
Created to enforce Catholic orthodoxy in a fractured Spain, the Inquisition targeted Jews, Muslims, Protestants, heretics, and anyone accused of straying from the faith. Its tools were fear, torture, and fire. Victims were dragged into secret trials, broken on the rack, and condemned in public autos-da-fé — “acts of faith” that ended at the stake.
This #DarkHistory documentary traces the rise of the Inquisition, its infamous Grand Inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada, its brutal methods of torture, its role in politics and propaganda, and its eventual decline. We separate myth from reality, exploring both the historical records and the terrifying legend that grew around it.
