Today I will talk about topping up in tanker industry.
Topping up is used for a tank which is loaded in an inerted condition usually for such loading consignee or charterer requirement is there to keep the oxygen level of the tank under certain limit throughout the voyage but due to the change in ambient temperature or due to the motion of the vessel at sea tanks are subject to receive air from outside through the PV valves or any vent system thus the oxygen content increases inside the tank.

Now how can you reduce the oxygen content to keep under the required limit ?
Yeah you have to insert inert gas..
the procedure is known as ....Topping Up....
