Welcome to TECHnically Designed Home! I’m preparing to move. I’m so excited to be making my first video in this “Move with Me” series to document the move from one apartment to another. Today I want to share with you my tips for renters (that anyone could use) and how to prepare for your upcoming move!

// 1 PLANNING
As with any big life decision, you need to plan. First consider factors like what is my budget (don’t forget about the cost of utilities, parking, internet, and amenities in your home budget)? Which neighborhoods or towns am I interested in? Where is the nearest grocery store? How long will my commute be?
I recommend these sites for finding properties:

Zillow – www.zillow.com
Realtor – www.realtor.com

Before your move, you can use my digital tool to create a to-scale floorplan and determine how your furniture will fit in your new space. (Video coming next week) If it doesn’t fit, donate or sell your items before you move!

// 2 DECLUTTER
When you have your pile of decluttered items, decide if you should throw broken or non-useable items away, donate to a local women’s shelter or charity, or try to sell your items online like on Poshmark.

// 5 GET EXCITED!
At the end of the day, this move is an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and redecorate (thumbs up this video if that’s what you’re excited for like me!). Technology makes it so easy to stay connected with friends and family long distance that you don’t have to worry about that anymore. Having a plan & a vision for your new space helps to make everything more relaxed and energizing throughout the stressful moving process.
