Hibernian FC made it 13th time unlucky for city rivals Heart Of Midlothian who were top of the table. Predictably, the game started at a whirlwind pace but was very scrappy, with referee John Underhill kept busy by a rash of niggling fouls. The match was an even contest until Hearts had Jankausakas was sent off after a second bookable offence.

Hearts were being pinned back and Hibernian FC made their pressure count after a good move down the right flank on 78 minutes. Gary Caldwell slipped a great pass to substitute Sproule and the speedy winger cut the ball back for Beuzelin to prod a shot in off the post.

Minutes later, Hibernian FC were further ahead when the Hearts defence was posted missing. Full-back Murphy had time to pick out Gary O'Connor in the penalty box the striker pulling the ball down on his chest before drilling a shot beyond Gordon to seal the win for the green half of Edinburgh.
