Before heading home to Manitoba, we squeeze in a dawn visit to Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park on Highway 4 between Qualicum Beach and Port Alberni. Fog hangs low, campfire scent drifts off Cameron Lake, and we wander boardwalk loops among old-growth Douglas-fir and Western red cedar—some reputed to be centuries old. We cap the island morning with a mural stop in Nanaimo, a souvenir dash, and yes… fresh Nanaimo bars in the rain, before our ferry → SkyTrain → airport relay.

Boardwalk loops (0.4–1 km): slow, look up, soak in the canopy
