Did you know that you can find the perimeter of a square by multiplying its side length by four?

Welcome back to our YouTube channel. In this video, we will be learning how to find the perimeter of a square.

Last lesson we learned that perimeter is the total distance around a shape. We also learned that to find the perimeter of a rectangle, we can use the formula two times the length plus two times the width.

In this lesson, we will be going over how to find the perimeter of a square.

Let’s begin by taking a look at the attributes of a square. What do we notice about all of the sides in a square?

If we were to observe the length of the sides in a square we can see that they are all equal in length!

I can now find the total perimeter by adding up all the sides which igives us 36 ft.

An easier way to find the perimeter of the square is by multiplying 9 times 4 because we have 4 sides that are all the equal in length. Nine times 4 is equal to 36 feet.

Since all sides are equal in length, we can use the formula 4 times s to find the perimeter of any square, where s represents the length of one of its sides.
