Non-destructive Testing: Guided Waves and Defect Resonances

A piezo actuator is attached to the backside of a carbon composite plate near the centre of the bottom edge. A short rectangular impulse is generating a wave propagating away from the source. A fast, low-amplitude precursor is observed to be followed by the large amplitude wave. Local defect resonances are excited by defects of the plate.
