There is nothing wrong with digital games and digital distribution - what is wrong is DRM limiting access to the things you bought and companies hedonistically milking consumers and consumers only focusing on the here and now. Ask yourself, " have we actually bought our games?" - possibly not. ULAs have become bigger and bigger and we might have been quietly lulled into believing we buy digital downloadable games when we actually end up only sort of leasing the games in the here and now or for as long as the companies providing access don't go belly up or move on to greener pastures.

I consider anything that I do not own physically as disposable and I don't count on companies to have an active part in game preservation. So I just preserve the games myself. Making my own backups and going the emulation route. It's daft but with the move to the internet, digital distribution we largely seem to depend on wikipedia and archive org to have any sort of preservation of our cultures. If for some reason dark ages would ever occur again like the middle ages - we'd probably be even worse of accessing our data, our culture than what happened with society and culture in the Horizon Zero Dawn universe.
