I Shall Be Released - for Bob's birthday - Marc Nerenberg 24 May '24

Yesterday, on Bob Dylan's 83rd birthday, Dave Liovski was the first musician to arrive at Montreal's weekly Yellow Door Hootenanny which I host, Dave helped to set up the room, then tuned the house guitar, and finally, sat down to warm up his guitar playing fingers before anyone else would arrive. At that point, listening to him play, I decided to ask him to join me on this, the evening's opening song. It was a felicitous decision!
Atypically, at the very start of this video, I've left the most important bits of what had been my rather long live song introduction that I used to set it up for the audience, So I have nothing much left that needs to be said here (except for the following technical specs).
I'm playing a 1910 Fairbanks Banjo, strung with (period appropriate sounding) synthetic gut strings, tuned eAEAC# here, using mostly old-time thumb-lead two-finger picking, with bits of clawhammer technique woven in in from time to time. This was recorded on 24 May, 2024, in downtown Montréal, Québec.
