Hello everyone, welcome to UCAN English Tutoring! In today’s video, we're diving into an in-depth analysis of the OET exam from August 17, 2024. We’ll cover all the essential components: listening, reading, writing, and speaking, based on insights from our students, who performed well despite the exam's challenges.

Let’s start with the Listening section.

In Part A, students tackled extracts featuring a pulmonologist and an ENT consultant. In Part B, topics ranged from pharmacology and CPR to IV fluids and vitamin B12.

Part C was particularly challenging, with a dermatologist discussing skin cancer, followed by a cardiologist talking about cholesterol. The complexity increased with topics like viral infections, Hepatitis C, and sports injuries in the final set of listening questions.

Now, on to the Reading section.

The first set focused on inguinal hernia, covering everything from definitions to surgical interventions. The second set delved into herpes zoster infection, while the third set explored hyperhidrosis, testing students on guidelines and treatment methods across these conditions.

Next, let’s talk about the Writing section.

In the first task, students had to write a referral letter for a patient with a complex medical history, including atopic eczema, pneumonia, and breast cancer. The second task involved drafting a referral for a home visit to a community dentist for a chef with dental issues, emphasizing the need for personalized care.

Finally, the Speaking section.

Role-play scenarios ranged from discussing weight gain in a community clinic, addressing a child’s constipation, to conducting a pre-operative assessment for cataract surgery. The final role-play involved handling an emergency department situation with a patient who had fallen, requiring careful management and follow-up.
