Thank you for asking me “How do I Drop a Domestic Violence Restraining Order / DVRO?”

In criminal cases the Petitioner is the People of the State. While you may be the victim in the case it isn’t your case, and so you don’t have the power to wake up one morning and decide to drop a criminal prosecution.

On the other hand, DVRO’s are civil cases, and so in a DVRO “the people”, are you... You are the Petitioner, not the State, and you have every right to drop your DVRO just as quickly as you requested it.
But, if you decide to drop your DVRO then please do not be discourteous to the Court and disrespectful to the system. After all, you cried wolf (meaning you asked for help), people gave their time to help you and resources were expended on your behalf.

So, if you no longer want the injunction that you yourself requested then either file a "Notice of Voluntary Dismissal" (which will permit the Judge to dismiss the case without wasting anymore of the Court's time or the taxpayer's resources) or, if you can't figure out how to do that then send the Judge a letter thanking the Court for it's time and effort, advising that you no longer need or wish the order of protection and respectfully asking that it be dismissed.

If you, the Petitioner, simply fail to appear at the hearing for a permanent injunction then the Court cannot grant it and the temporary DVRO will necessary expire. But, again, there is no excuse for you to be rude, especially when it’s all too east to be a decent human being and to show the Court some respect and courtesy.
