This one is full of humor with all the switches between registers and the placement of the main rhythmic motive. There seems to be a musical joke in this etude where Dotzauer pairs the strings against each other to emphasis the higher ranges against the lower ranges. I recommend using this etude to practice bow control and for clean string crossings. The challenge for the left-hand is make sure each finger is down before the bow is on the string. The left-hand alternates between dropping each finger along the string and shifting to a new position to place the next pitch. Additionally, this etude is a good place for students to explore interpreting the same repetitious motive in various ways to create variance and interest.
