Smart Philippines have installed a brand new Wi-Fi system throughout the NAIA airport terminals in Manila. As well as other airports around the Philippines.

While it's heavily promoted as being free, that's only true for the first hour. After an hour, you need to pay rates which closely match those of mobile data.

The airport is served by a Fiber connection, offering speedtest results of up to 200Mbps down and up. During some download tests to the U.S. , U.K. and Netherlands, I was able to see speeds of 10 -15 MB/s.

There are pros and cons to Smart charging for this Wi-Fi system. The pro is that they'll be making huge amounts of profit so they'll want to keep the Wi-Fi network maintained for long into the future. The con is that they're charging high mobile data rates for a fixed line connection which doesn't seem reasonable.
